A Message From NCW Equity Alliance About the City of Wenatchee Flag Replacement
NCW Equity Alliance is aware of the recent decision to replace the previously displayed rainbow diversity banners in the City of Wenatchee during the month of June with a local chapter of Turning Point USA’s “America’s Family Month” banners.
The removal of visible LGBTQIA+ representation during a month nationally recognized for celebration, awareness, and inclusion is deeply disappointing. For many in our community, this shift does not feel neutral. It is a step away from inclusion and belonging.
This concern is heightened by the association with an organization that has publicly taken positions many view as exclusionary toward LGBTQIA+ individuals. Public messaging matters, as does who is represented. and who is not.
NCW Equity Alliance was created in response to community voices calling for greater equity, inclusion, and representation across North Central Washington. That mission remains unchanged. We believe our public spaces should reflect the full diversity of our region and affirm that all people are valued.
While decisions may change, our commitment does not. We will continue to advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to support efforts that uplift visibility and dignity for historically marginalized communities.
We are proud supporters of inclusive billboard messaging in our region and are actively exploring additional ways to ensure our community reflects these values this June. Please stay tuned for updates.
